Agartala, 29th January 2024:   Gouranga Rudra Pal, Secretary of Amra Bangali, expressed serious concerns over the recent demolition of 14 houses in Kalai Para, located under the Teliamura police station in Tripura. Pal accused the BJP-led government of following an “appeasement policy” reminiscent of the Left era, where actions against those who harbor hatred towards Bengalis were neglected for the sake of political gain.

Pal highlighted that the incident occurred last Friday night when unidentified miscreants destroyed the houses under construction, which were part of the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana. He presented evidence suggesting that the attackers aimed to drive Bengalis out of the area, expressing sorrow and protest on behalf of the Bengali community.

Drawing attention to the lack of a permanent police presence in the North Brahmacherra area of Teliamura, Pal called for the immediate identification and strict punishment of those responsible for the vandalism. Additionally, he urged the establishment of a permanent police camp in the region to ensure the security of Bengalis living in remote areas. Pal emphasized the need for swift compensation for the victims affected by the demolition.

Amra Bengali further demanded an end to taxes imposed on Bengali businessmen operating in the ADC area. The organization stressed the importance of establishing the constitutional rights of Bengalis in Tripura, calling for proactive measures to address the concerns raised by the community. The press conference concluded with a plea for justice and security for Bengalis in the region.
