Agartala, 7th February 2024:   In a sudden escalation of tensions in Dakshin Hurua of Dharmanagar sub-division, protests erupted today morning as villagers expressed anger over the entry of vehicles, including ONGC equipment, causing heavy losses to power lines and damaging electrical connections in the area.

The unrest was triggered near one Sudip Bhattacharya’s house in Dakshin Hurua Gram Panchayat, where ONGC drilling operations were underway. Initially permitted by the Electricity Department to enter, ONGC vehicles started entering the area without proper authorization, resulting in the snapping of electrical connections.

As a consequence, villagers experienced power outages, leading to severe damage to high-voltage electrical appliances such as e-rickshaws, TVs, refrigerators, and motors. Some individuals even sustained injuries from falling electrical wires during the chaos.

Enraged by the disregard for proper procedures, locals initiated road blockades, disrupting various routes in protest against the damages caused by ONGC activities. The villagers demanded that ONGC take responsibility for the damaged electrical appliances in every affected household.

Reports indicate that the blockade was lifted after assurances from the Electricity Department regarding the proper restoration of electrical connections. However, the incident has left the community in a state of intense anger and frustration.

While the roads have been de-blocked for the convenience of the people, tensions remain high in Dakshin Hurua. The local community awaits further actions and accountability from ONGC, emphasizing the importance of adhering to safety protocols to prevent future incidents.
