Agartala, February 10: Hundreds of Vaishnav devotees took part in a grand procession on the streets of Agartala on Saturday to mark the 25th anniversary of the Tripura State Gaudiya Vaishnav Mahamandal, a religious organization that follows the teachings of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, a 15th century Hindu saint and avatar of Lord Krishna¹.
The procession started from the grounds of Khudiram Bose English Medium School in Agartala and passed through various parts of the city, chanting the holy names of Krishna and Radha, and dancing to the tunes of devotional songs. The devotees also distributed prasadam, or sanctified food, to the public along the way.
According to a member of the Tripura State Gaudiya Vaishnav Mahamandal, the procession was organized to commemorate the 25th year of the establishment of the organization, as well as to celebrate the occasion of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s renunciation of worldly life and acceptance of monkhood in the month of Magha, 514 years ago. He said that the aim of the procession was to spread the message of peace, love, and devotion among the people.
