Patient bombs mental health centre in Russia

Date:

A suspected mental patient detonated an explosive device at a mental health centre in the southwestern Russian city of Elista on Saturday, killing himself and injuring two others, investigators said.

“Investigators suspect that the man, who is provisionally believed to have a mental health record, came for an appointment at a centre that provides psychological assistance,” the regional investigative authority said.

“In an altercation with an employee, the man detonated an unidentified explosive device, killing himself,” the statement added.

The employee and their relative were taken to a hospital with serious injuries, the investigators said.

A criminal probe was opened into the suspected bombing. The prosecutor of Elista, the main city of Russia’s Kalmykia Republic, will go to the crime scene. The regional prosecutor’s office said it would monitor the investigation. UNI/SPUTNIK AKS
