Agartala, 11th February 2024:  Indigenous leaders from the BJP-Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) in Tripura are vehemently opposing an indefinite strike called by a faction of the indigenous student body starting February 12. They are urging the protesters to reconsider and engage in dialogue with the state government to resolve the issue.

The indigenous student bodies, along with other civil society organizations, have announced an indefinite blockade of national highways and railways, demanding the adoption of the Roman script for the Kokborok language.

These leaders recently met with Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha at his residence to discuss the matter.

Devid Debbarma, BJP state secretary, stated after the meeting that discussions with the Chief Minister have taken place yesterday and today, expressing hope for a resolution. He noted the Chief Minister’s previous statements and correspondence regarding the issue.

Meanwhile, Parimal Debbarma, Tripura BJP Janajati Morcha President and former MLA, denounced the strike as undemocratic. He emphasized the need for dialogue, citing recent discussions with the Chief Minister and urging the protesting groups to withdraw their strike and engage in constructive conversation instead.
