State records over 16% rise in GST collections

Agartala, 27th February 2024: The GST collection (combined State and Center) in the state has increased by 16.07 percent this year, announced Finance Department Secretary Apurba Roy.

 During a press conference, the finance department official stated that, as of January 2024, the GST collected in the state is Rs. 3303.58 crore, compared to Rs. 2846.31 crore in the same period last year.

Highlighting the annual duty and revenue collection statistics, he mentioned that, as of January 2024, excise duty collected in the state amounts to Rs. 327.90 crore, up from Rs. 298.08 crores till January 2023, reflecting a 10 percent increase. Additionally, vehicle tax collected as of January 2024 is Rs. 108.69 crore, compared to Rs. 96.11 crore till January 2023, marking a 13.09 percent increase in vehicle tax collection.

The Finance Secretary provided details on sales tax collection, noting that, till January 2024, sales tax collected is Rs. 428.32 crore, compared to Rs. 367.67 crore till January 2023, representing a 16.50 percent increase.

He further stated, “As of January 2024, the overall revenue tax collection of the state is Rs. 2656.86 crore, up from Rs. 2464.45 crore till January 2023, showing an increase of 7.81 percent. In the non-tax sector, the total revenue collected in the state is Rs. 337.28 crore as of January 2024, compared to Rs. 314.50 crore till January 2023, indicating a 7.24 percent increase in revenue collection compared to last year.”
