Rainfall expected over Northwest India from March 1 to 3

Northwest India will witness moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and winds gusting up to 60 kmph from March 1 to 3, with the possibility of heavy rainfall on March 1 and 2, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday.

According to IMD, “Under the influence of western disturbances, fairly widespread to widespread moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is very likely over the Western Himalayan Region from the night of February 29 to March 3.”

Scattered to fairly widespread moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusting to 60 kmph very likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi, and scattered moderate rainfall over Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and north Madhya Pradesh on March 1 and 2, the IMD said.

The Met Department further predicted isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall and snowfall over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on March 1 & 2.

Isolated heavy rainfall and snowfall are expected over Himachal Pradesh on March 1 and heavy to very heavy rainfall and snowfall on March 2, it said.

Parts of Uttarakhand and Punjab are also likely to witness isolated heavy rainfall and snowfall on March 1 & 2.

The IMD also predicted hailstorm activity at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh,Uttarakhand, Punjab on March 1 and 2; over West Rajasthan on March 1 and over Haryana, Chandigarh, East Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and North Madhya Pradesh on March 2.

Strong surface winds gusting to 60 kmph are also likely to prevail over Northwest India on March 1 and 2, the IMD said.
