Gandacherra sub-division plunged into darkness amid Board exams: Local outrage over Power Company’s negligence

Agartala, March 16: In the Manoranjan Para area of Gandacherra sub-division, a crisis has taken place affecting the lives of many, particularly students during their crucial examination period. For the past four days, residents have been grappling with the absence of electricity and drinking water, leading to distress and disruption of daily life.

The ordeal began when a local businessman illegally connected to the power supply, causing a ‘hook line’ incident. This unauthorized connection was further compromised when a passing vehicle caused the common road wire to snap, resulting in damage to the power transformer and a subsequent blackout in the area.

The timing could not have been worse, as secondary and higher secondary examinees are in the midst of their academic assessments. The lack of electricity has forced students to resort to candlelight for studying, casting a literal and metaphorical shadow over their future prospects.

Repeated pleas to FEDCO, the private power company responsible for the area, have gone unheeded, leaving the community in the lurch. In a desperate move, residents staged a demonstration at the company’s office on Saturday. The manager responded with assurances that efforts would be made to procure a replacement transformer from Ambassa, with hopes of restoring power if the equipment arrives as planned.
