Agartala, 20th March 2024 :   In a significant demonstration of discontent, hundreds of E-Rickshaw drivers in Agartala convened today to voice their grievances against the ongoing restrictions imposed on their operations within the city.

Led by their organization leader, Imam Hussain, the drivers marched to meet with West District Traffic Superintendent Manik Das, seeking redressal for their concerns.

At the heart of their protest lies the contention that E-Rickshaw, a popular mode of transportation, are being unfairly barred from boarding passengers within Agartala city limits. Additionally, they lamented the defamation of their organization, citing the discrediting of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangha within the confines of the stand.

Expressing frustration over the limitations imposed on their movement, the drivers highlighted the inconvenience caused by being restricted from traversing certain roads under the guise of traffic management. Moreover, they decried the prohibition on allowing passengers to stand on streets throughout the city.

Of paramount concern was the reported obstruction faced by E-Rickshaw attempting to access the stand in Nagerjala, purportedly orchestrated by individuals affiliated with the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangha.

During their dialogue with Superintendent Das, the drivers articulated their demand for immediate action, urging the authorities to either facilitate their unrestricted movement or provide alternative employment opportunities. Imam Hossain emphasized the economic strain faced by drivers, underscoring the need for a swift resolution to alleviate the hardships endured by their families.

Following extensive discussions, Superintendent Das offered assurances that the grievances raised by the E-Rickshaw drivers would be earnestly addressed. However, the duration of the ongoing protest remains uncertain as the drivers await concrete measures to alleviate their concerns.
