Prominent Literary Figure Shyamal Chowdhury Passes Away at 83

Agartala, 24th March 2024:  Shyamal Chowdhury, a prominent literary figure and the father of Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, has passed away. He was 83 years old at the time of his death. He had been ill for a long time and passed away this morning while undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Agartala.

Chowdhury, who received the Muktijudda Maitri Award from the Government of Bangladesh, was honored with various awards at different times, including the Special Literary Culture Award for his contribution to the development of educational culture and tradition.

Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha has expressed deep grief over his death.

“I am deeply saddened by the death of Shyamal Chowdhury, a Mukti Judda Maitri awardee and the father of my colleague Sushanta Chowdhury. His passing is a significant loss to the literary circles of the state. In this time of bereavement, I offer my deepest condolences to his bereaved family and pray to God to rest his departed soul in peace.”

Former Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, MP Biplab Kumar Deb, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Former Minister and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman also expressed grief over his demise.
