Seven shops at Kakraban burnt to ashes, loss of Rs 70 lakh incurred

Agartala, 6th May 2024 :  A fierce blaze engulfed seven shops in the market of Kakraban Hospital Choumuhani Ichacherra area in Udaipur sub-division leaving them completely destroyed. The incident took place last night has instilled a sense of panic among the local businessmen.

Preliminary investigations suggest the possibility of arson as the cause of the inferno that turned the shops into ashes. The affected establishments, including grocery, mobile repair, liquor shops, and convenience stores, have collectively estimated their losses to be around Rs 70 lakh.

Eyewitnesses reported that hearing a loud explosion late at night, which prompted them to witness the fiery spectacle. Despite immediate notification, the response from the Kakraban station’s fire brigade was delayed, leading to the complete destruction of seven shops in succession.

Business owners have expressed their frustration over the delayed response, speculating that timely action by the fire department could have mitigated the extensive damage. In a further unfortunate development, reports have emerged of an agitated mob causing damage to the fire engine upon its late arrival at the scene.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident, and efforts are underway to support the affected shop owners during this difficult time.
