Agartala, 9th May 2024 : In a significant development in the ongoing murder investigation of Bharat Ratna Sangh Club’s general secretary Durga Prasanna Deb, the Tripura Police has successfully apprehended a 35-year-old male suspect from Jharkhand this evening. The individual identified as Akash Kar was arrested. Though main mastermind arrested, Special Investigation Team (SIT) left for Jharkhand.
Akash Kar, whose residence is reportedly adjacent to the Bharat Ratna Sangh Club in Usha Bazar, has been a figure of ill repute in the locality, often referred to as the ‘nego-mafia’. He had been on the run since the murder of Durga Prasanna Deb alias Vicky and emerged as a prime suspect during the police investigation.
The breakthrough came following the interrogation of previously arrested individuals and the tracking of mobile numbers, which led the police to Jharkhand where Kar was taken into custody. The information regarding his arrest was disclosed by an officer from the West District police force.
Authorities are considering the possibility of obtaining a transit remand to transfer Akash Kar to Agartala tomorrow. Police sources have indicated that Kar was one of three individuals identified as potential perpetrators in the aftermath of the murder. Furthermore, it has been revealed that Kar had previously been implicated in a shooting incident, suggesting a history of violent crime.
In a related arrest, the police took into custody another young man, Sunny Saha, in proximity to the Hindi High School last night, in connection with the same murder case. The SIT’s officials left for Jharkhand and their investigation continues as they piece together the events leading to the untimely death of Durga Prasanna Deb.
It is worthy to mention here that the police have earlier arrested Pradyut Dhar Chowdhury, Bir Chakra Ghosh and Sushmita Sarkar in connection to this murder case.
