Through high voter turnout, people have sent a message to Delhi: Mehbooba

Date:

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday said that good voter turnout in Srinagar Lok Sabha seat was a message from people to Delhi that the decisions taken in 2019 were not accepted by the people of Kashmir.

“The polling percentage for the Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency held yesterday was good and people have sent a message to Delhi that the decisions taken in 2019 (abrogation of Article 370) are not accepted by the people of Kashmir. And the decisions taken regarding the state subject, land and employment are also not acceptable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Mehbooba told media in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday.

On Monday, the Srinagar Lok Sabha recorded a voter turnout of 38 percent, the highest since 1996.

She alleged that polling was disturbed in the places where people gathered to vote for the PDP.

“The polling was deliberately made slow”, she alleged.

The PDP President is contesting the Lok Sabha election from Anantnag-Rajouri seat where polling is likely to be held on May 25.

“I wish the people of Rajouri, Poonch, Anantnag, Kulgam, and Wachi would know if they have to wait for ten hours in the queue during voting for the Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary seat, stand and don’t come back until they vote”, she said.

“The suffocation people were feeling in Srinagar and wanted their voice to reach Parliament to aware the people of the country that we (people) have been suppressed and facing troubles”, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister said and added, “I am sure that voice will encourage the people of Anantnag, Kulgam, Rajouri and Poonch people will come out and vote in a big way”.

Mehbooba said the polls of Srinagar would have its impact in other Lok Sabha seats “

“Naturally the situation which is in Srinagar, Pulwama, same situation is in Anantnag, Kulgam,” she said
