Agartala, 18th May 2024:   The Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Chandraketu Tripura of Baikhora police station has come under scrutiny for allegedly preventing farmers from marketing their agricultural produce. The incident has sparked outrage among the farming community leading to a blockade of the national highway in the Baikhora area.

According to eyewitness accounts on Saturday, ASI Chandraketu Tripura has been harassing people on various pretexts affecting their livelihoods. Despite being assigned to Hrishyamukh Police Station, he remains in Baikhora, where farmers and ordinary citizens have reportedly borne the brunt of his actions. Farmers attending the Baikhora weekly market have faced difficulties due to Chandraketu’s alleged extortion practices.

One farmer revealed that Chandraketu stationed himself at the vegetable market, demanding fees from vehicles transporting agricultural produce. This behavior has discouraged drivers from bringing crops to the market, resulting in financial losses for farmers. Frustrated by the situation, farmers staged a roadblock on Saturday, effectively shutting down the National Highway.

Baikhora Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Bishnu Chandra Das swiftly responded to the blockade, promising action against Chandraketu. The OC assured the farmers that a thorough investigation into the allegations would take place. As tensions eased, the farmers removed the roadblock.

OC Bishnu Chandra Das emphasized that all complaints against ASI Chandraketu Tripura are being thoroughly examined. If the allegations are substantiated, appropriate measures will be taken against the officer.
