Agartala, May 27: An inmate from the Bishalgarh Central Correctional Facility managed to flee from the medicine ward of GB Hospital. The prisoner has been identified as Pradeep Sarkar, who hails from the Maiganga area in Teliamura. According to a jail police officer on guard, Pradeep Sarkar had been receiving treatment at GB Hospital for several days.

The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon around 2:30 PM. The prisoner requested permission to use the restroom, and the vigilant guard escorted him there. However, while the guard was also in the restroom, Pradeep Sarkar seized the opportunity. He escaped through a broken window, evading the authorities.

When the police personnel emerged from the restroom, they were shocked to find the prisoner missing. A frantic search ensued, with jail police personnel alerted immediately. Officials from the Bishalgarh Central Correctional Home, along with the Inspector General (IG), rushed to the scene. Despite their efforts, the fugitive remained elusive.

The escape has raised serious concerns about security protocols at the correctional facility. Lack of adequate police personnel on guard appears to be a contributing factor. This incident is not the first of its kind; similar lapses have occurred multiple times in recent months at the Bishalgarh Central Correctional Home. Authorities must address these issues promptly to prevent further escapes due to negligence.

Residents of the state are demanding accountability and urging authorities to ensure a robust security system within correctional facilities. The safety of both inmates and the public hangs in the balance, and immediate corrective measures are imperative.
