Houses sinking into Manu river in Kailashahar, administration remains silent

Agartala, 29th May 2024:   The swelling Manu River, exacerbated by three days of heavy rain, has engulfed homes in the Gobindapur area of Ward No. 10 in Kailashahar. Families affected by this sudden erosion are now homeless, while the local administration has yet to take any action to prevent further damage.

In the heart of Kailashahar, several houses have been claimed by the river, with residents such as Sabita Sarkar, Manik Sarkar, and Reena Sarkar among the hardest hit. Panic has spread among other residents living near the river, fearing their homes could be next.

Despite the urgent need for intervention, the administration has remained a silent spectator, offering no assistance or solutions to the displaced families. The affected residents, unable to afford new land or rebuild their homes, find themselves in a dire situation.

This ongoing struggle against nature’s forces is not new, but the recent events underscore the lack of proactive measures despite advancements in technology that could foresee such disasters. The devastation follows the recent havoc wreaked by Cyclone Remal, highlighting the community’s continuous battle for survival against natural calamities.

As the river continues to threaten more homes, the residents stand under the open sky, contemplating their uncertain future and hoping for swift administrative action to mitigate further losses.
