Traffic accident in Tanzania kills 13

Date:

As many as 13 people have been killed and 18 more have been injured in the Tanzanian region of Mbeya as a truck had failed to brake and rammed several cars and motorcycles, The Citizen Tanzania has reported, citing eyewitnesses and police.

The accident occurred on Wednesday along the Simike slope in the Mbembela area and involved the truck, three vehicles, a three-wheeled vehicle and several motorcycles, the report said.

All those who suffered injuries, including eight people in critical condition, were taken to Mbeya Regional Hospital for urgent medical assistance, the report said.

Police commander Benjamini Kuzaga confirmed the casualties and said that the truck driver’s inability to control the vehicle after failing to brake caused the incident. The truck driver was detained, the report cited Kuzaga as saying. Drivers of the three-wheeled vehicle and a motorcycle are also being investigated.
