Cabinet body responsible for Manipur’s displaced population

) The Manipur Cabinet has decided to constitute a Cabinet Sub-Committee to look after the affairs of displaced persons due to conflict in the state. The Committee shall report to the Chief Minister.

State information office informed that the Cabinet presided by CM N Biren Singh on Thursday took the decision under Rule 13 of the Rules of Business of Government of Manipur.

The Sub-Committee will be headed by Minister of Works and YAS, K. Govindas Singh as the Chairperson; while, Minister of Water Resources and Relief & Disaster Management, Awangbow Newmai; Minister, Medical Health & FW and IPR, Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh; and Minister A.H. & Vety. and Transport, Khashim Vashum will be the other members.

Commissioner-cum-Home, Gyanprakash Huirem will be the Member Secretary of the Committee.

The Cabinet Sub-Committee will identify the grievances of Internally displaced persons (IDP) staying in relief camps, assess the needs and requirements of persons in relief camps, supervise measures for resettlement and rehabilitation of IDPs, and supervise identification of land for temporary relocation of IDPs, among other things.

The Cabinet also resolved to instruct Deputy Commissioners to complete assessment of damage due to floods within one week. It also approved Rs. 10, 000/- per flood affected family as immediate relief.

The Cabinet also gave its nod for local elections for ADC, Panchayats and Municipalities jointly around September, 2024, and agreed to seek views of HAC in respect of ADC elections.
