Mizo Convention writes CM demanding to save Tlaksih Village

Agartala, 21st June 2024:  The Mizo Convention of Jampui Hill has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha demanding Tlaksih Village in Vanghmun of Jampui Hill.

In the memorandum, they said that the century-old Tlaksih village and its residents who have been enduring tremendous physical losses and psychological traumas of disastrous proportions as negative consequences of constructions of NH44A.

“Eastern half of the village is sliding and sinking and unhabitable. 14 houses was damaged and abandoned.7 acres of plantation crops have been destroyed. More than 30 graves have been damaged and the villagers have to re-bury the mortal remains of their loved ones on a makeshift donated land, causing tremendous emotional pains.The lone government school of the village is also affected by the slide and has to be abandoned”, the memorandum said.

The Mizo Convention also said that no adequate rehabilitative and relief measures have been given to the affected families and claimed that many families of Tlaksih village and Hmunpui village have not been given their rightful compensation which are due to them, even up to this day.

They said that as the monsoon rains continue to pour down, the cracks widen, expand and the slides progress with possibility of the worst disaster of its kind further happening any moment. They have demanded award of compensation and relief in line with the real value of the damaged and lost properties to families who lost their houses, properties, lands and plantation crops.

“Families currently still living in the slide prone areas so that they can safely shift to a safer location as soon as possible. Families of Hmunpui and Tlaksih villages whose lands, crops and houses along Hmunpui- Kanchanpur segment are damaged by the construction of NH44A, but have not yet received their due compensation, all must be given as soon as possible to the real worth of their properties. Rebuild the whole Tlaksih village as a Model Village through funds from Central Government as a special package. Immediately reconstruct, at a safer location, a new school building to replace the old building damaged by the landslide”, they have demanded.
