Driver’s day robbery at Churaibari Food warehouse raises concerns

Agartala, 22nd June 2024:   In a startling revelation, lorry drivers and co-drivers have been pilfering sacks of rice from the Churaibari food warehouse during broad daylight. The audacious thefts involve surreptitious exchanges of rice between vehicles, leaving the warehouse staff baffled and the local community outraged.

On the eleventh day of this month, at approximately 5 PM, an exchange took place between two vehicles bearing registration numbers TR05E-1723 and TR02B-1754. The transaction ostensibly involved iron material of equal weight, but the drivers and co-drivers swiftly seized two quintals of rice. This modus operandi repeats itself across multiple vehicles resulting in the loss of several sacks of rice daily.

The question on everyone’s lips: How can this rampant theft occur without detection? Are security guards and other warehouse workers turning a blind eye, or is there complicity within the ranks? The situation is not new; for a quarter-century, lorry drivers have brazenly plundered rice during daylight hours. Local temporary food warehouse workers find themselves powerless, their pleas for action falling on deaf ears.

Previously, Churaibari housed a large-scale Indian food warehouse, but due to persistent thefts, it was relocated. Now, the current warehouse—where lorry drivers transport rice from Dharmanagar—has become a hotspot for illicit exchanges. The urgent question remains: Who will put an end to this daylight robbery? Only time will tell.
