Indian High Commission orders repatriation of students amid unrest in Bangladesh

Agartala, 20th July 2024:   Due to ongoing unrest and deteriorating law and order at various colleges and universities in Bangladesh, the Indian High Commission has mandated the immediate return of Indian students. Many students from institutions in Comilla and Dhaka have already begun their journey back to India through the ICP Srimantapur Sonamura border point under Sepahijala district.

The 81st Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) stationed in Sonamura is providing comprehensive assistance to these returning students. The students are being received with due care ensuring a hassle-free transition and provided with adequate transportation support.

As of 1 PM on Saturday, 20 students have entered India through the ICP Srimantapur, Sonamura. Most of these students were pursuing medical studies at Mainamati Medical College Hospital in Comilla and hail from the Indian states of West Bengal and Assam. Commanding Officer Rakesh Sinha and IG Patel Piyush Purushottam Das under the direction of IG BSF Frontier HQ Tripura are overseeing the smooth repatriation process.
