AP assembly budget sessions begin, oppn YSRCP stages walkout

Date:

Andhra Pradesh Assembly budget sessions began on Monday at Amaravati, near here. Andhra Pradesh Governor S. Abdul Nazeer addressed the members of the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council.

As soon as the governor began addressing the joint session, the opposition YSRCP members started raising slogans like’save democracy’ and ‘we want justice’. The former Chief Minister,, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, led opposition members sometime later, staged a walkout from the House.

Earlier, the opposition YSRCP MLAs and MLCs led by former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy went to the Assembly wearing black scarves around the neck in a symbolic protest against the deteriorating law and order situation.

However, they were not allowed by the police. The police insisted the opposition MLAs and MLCs remove the black scarves, which led to a heated argument between Jagan Mohan Reddy and the police. Jagan Reddy expressed anger over the police for snatching and tearing placards.

Ex-Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy stated that the police’s heavy-handedness would not persist forever and issued a stern warning for them to remember their duty to protect democracy, not to undermine it. Highlighting the insignia of lions on police caps, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy stated that they symbolise the protection of democracy, not its destruction. He questioned the police’s right to seize and tore the papers held by the MLAs and MLCs, demanding accountability for their actions.

Meanwhile, after the Governor’s address, the sessions were adjourned to Tuesday.
