Agartala, 8th August 2024:    The Tripura High Court Bar Association elections are scheduled to take place on August 10, with 217 voters set to cast their ballots. The Constituent Manch, a prominent group in the elections, is once again fielding candidates for various positions.

Senior lawyer Piyush Kanti Biswas has been nominated for the post of President, while Subrata Sarkar is the candidate for Secretary. Other key nominations include Prabal Ghosh for Vice-President, Ashit Nath for Assistant Secretary, and a candidate for Treasurer. Additionally, six members are contesting for various posts.

In a press conference held at the district court’s Naya Bhavan at 4 PM on Thursday, lawyer Haribal Debnath shared insights about the upcoming elections. “The campaign has received a huge response,” Debnath stated. He expressed optimism, saying, “We are hopeful that the Tripura High Court Bar Association will secure a victory similar to the Tripura Bar Association.”

Debnath also highlighted concerns about the state of democracy, drawing parallels with the panchayat elections. “The same way democracy is being destroyed in the state around panchayat elections, the same situation is going on across the country,” he remarked. He emphasized the importance of the Constituent Bicher Manch, which was named a few years ago to underscore these issues. “The lawyers will make various demands to protect the constitution in the coming days,” Debnath concluded.

The elections are anticipated to be a significant event for the legal community in Tripura, reflecting broader democratic challenges and aspirations.
