Scared of losing, BJP wants Haryana polling date postponed: Chautala

Date:

Ridiculing the BJP for seeking postponement of the Haryana Assembly polling date, former state Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala has said it only shows that the saffron outfit is “afraid” of losing the election.

Addressing mediapersons in Jind on Saturday, the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) chief claimed the ruling BJP has reached out to the ECI requesting the polling, currently slated for October 1 for the 90-member Assembly, be deferred as its support base in the state has “shrunk”.

“The BJP is afraid of losing the polls. So it is scared after the announcement of the early polling date. It is because of this that it has reached out to the Election Commission requesting the date of polling be pushed back. We don’t think the Commission will consider this request,” said Chautala.

He was referring to the letters give to the ECI by the BJP and the opposition Indian National Lok Dal requesting the polling date be deferred by almost a week as they apprehend a low turnout in view of a host of holidays around the current election date.

Chautala prophesied that the BJP would not be able to win even 20 seats.

He said the people of Haryana are very angry with the BJP, and on October 1 they will express their anger by voting in large numbers.

Taking on the Congress, Chautala said before the BJP, the Congress divided the state on the basis of regionalism during its 10 year rule. “Everyone is aware of the poor condition of roads in all areas except one region during Congress rule. There was regionalism in jobs and corruption and the people of the state will never forget the rule of the Congress”.

In response to a question, Chautala said for the last four years, former Union Minister Birender Singh has been repeatedly saying that “Dushyant Chautala will not contest elections from Uchana”

“But I am still in my Uchana and will remain here in future too. I will contest from Uchana and win,” he said.

Earlier, Chautala held a meeting with party workers regarding the assembly elections and gave them the necessary guidelines. He said party workers should work hard for the next 36 days.

He expressed confidence that JJP will win more number of seats than last time and play an important role in government formation. UNI GS SSP
