Agartala, 2nd September 2024:   A heated debate has erupted following a controversial social media post by Minister Sudhangshu Das. The CPIM Tripura State Secretariat has strongly condemned the minister’s statement, while Pradesh Congress leaders have also voiced strong protests demanding his immediate removal from the cabinet.

In his post, Minister Das wrote, “I think Hindus have no moral right to worship their gods and goddesses, because a nation cannot save its idols and temples from the hands of infidel jihadists, who do not come forward to protest against the gross insult to their religion. Hindu temples are being vandalized and we are all doing politics by drinking the juice of secularism. Hindu, this is your shame, your ultimate failure.”

He further added, “Keep in mind that even after seeing the extreme humiliation of your religion, seeing the idols and temples of your idol being vandalized, if the blood in your body does not warm, if the language of protest does not wake up in your voice, assume that water is flowing in your body, not blood. Think outside of politics.”

The minister’s statement has caused a significant stir in the state. The CPIM Tripura State Secretariat issued a statement condemning the minister’s remarks as provocative against religious minorities, warning that it could encourage those who destroy communal harmony. They urged the Chief Minister, the government and the police administration to take appropriate measures swiftly.

Similarly, the Tripura Pradesh Congress has strongly condemned the statement. At a press conference held at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan in Agartala, spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty questioned how a minister could make such a communal statement. He warned that if the minister is not immediately removed from the cabinet, the Pradesh Congress would launch a state-wide agitation.
