Agartala, 14th September 2024:   In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, Kamalpur Police arrested three individuals late Friday night at Durga Choumuhani Naka Point on National Highway No. 208. The arrests were made following the interception of a vehicle bearing registration number TR 04 BV-0629 at approximately 2:30 am.

Upon searching the vehicle, police found a total of 91,200 Yaba tablets valued at around Rs 2.5 crore. The contraband was found in 456 packets hidden within the car. The arrested individuals have been identified as Liton Mia, Saminul Islam and Zahir Hussain.

“The successful interception and seizure of such a large quantity of Yaba tablets is a testament to our ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region. “We are committed to ensuring that those involved in such illegal activities are brought to justice,” said Officer-in-Charge of Kamalpur Police Station Inspector Rajesh Kumar.

The suspects were immediately taken into custody and transported to Kamalpur Police Station. An investigation has been launched under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Authorities believe that the interrogation of the arrested individuals may lead to the identification and apprehension of other members involved in the smuggling network.

“We are hopeful that this operation will help us dismantle a significant portion of the drug trafficking network operating in the area. Our team is working diligently to uncover all those connected to this crime,” added Inspector Kumar.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha commended the role of Dhalai police. Taking this to his social media handle, Dr Saha wrote “Kudos to Dhalai District Police for their unrelenting efforts in combating narcotic drugs trafficking! Great job, Dhalai District Police! Keep up the fantastic work!”
