Agartala  Sept 14: Ignoring the incessant rains since Wednesday morning, people of three neighborhoods jointly blocked the national highway demanding immediate road reform.

Agitating locals blocked the national highway near Hawaibari Naka Point under Teliamura Police Station at around 8:30 am on Wednesday. Reportedly, the road from Hawaibari National Highway to Hadrai-Tarachan Rupini  Para through Kuki Colony is in a dilapidated condition due to the lack of renovation for many years.

Locals alleged, despite of informing the concerned authorities repeatedly, nothing has been done to repair the road.Finding no solution the villagers blocked the road in protest. A  large number of vehicles were stuck on both sides of the road as a result of the sudden blockade of the national highway by the villagers.

Police and TSR forces of Teliamura rushed to the spot after receiving the news. But the police could not sway the agitating villagers. Later, DCM Anjan Das rushed to the spot. He spoke to the blockaders and promised to restore the road within the next month. Receiving specific promises the blockade was finally lifted after almost three hours.
