Agartala, 21st October 2024: The Sadar District Youth Congress organized a protest march in the Agartala city on Monday rallying under the slogan “Nesha Noi Chakri Chai” (No Drugs, We Want Jobs). The march culminated in a demonstration in front of the Labour Department, where workers and supporters voiced their grievances.
TPYC President Neel Kamal Saha participating in the protest spoke to reporters, highlighting the unfulfilled promises made by the BJP government in Tripura. “In 2018, the BJP government promised to make Tripura drug-free and provide employment for the unemployed. But they have failed to deliver on these promises. Instead, addiction is destroying the youth in every household across the state,” Saha stated.
He further elaborated on the dire situation, saying, “In every part of the state, youths are getting addicted to drugs and are involved in murder, terrorism, and violence against women. The youth, addicted to drugs, have indulged in various anti-social activities. Shockingly, leaders and workers of the ruling party are also involved in these activities.”
The protest aimed to draw attention to the growing issue of drug addiction and the lack of employment opportunities for the youth. “Congress has joined today in protest against this alarming situation,” the activist added.
