Agartala, 24th November 2024: The education system in the northern district is crumbling, leaving parents and students increasingly worried about the state of schools.
A dual crisis has engulfed the schools—an acute shortage of teachers on one hand and rampant administrative negligence on the other.
Parents and guardians have expressed severe dissatisfaction with the functioning of schools, accusing existing teachers of irresponsibility.
Many schools lack a headmaster, resulting in unchecked behavior among staff. Teachers reportedly arrive and leave at their convenience, with no regard for the official schedule, taking advantage of the absence of leadership and supervision.
Despite the presence of school inspectors and District Education Officers, locals claim these authorities fail to exercise control or monitor school activities. “The inspectors appear indifferent to the situation, and as a result, teachers come and go as they please,” said a concerned parent.
Adding to the woes, several teachers posted in the northern district from Agartala and other regions are frequently accused of dereliction of duty. Allegations suggest these teachers prioritize personal excuses over their professional responsibilities, often leaving students in the lurch.
BRC (Block Resource Centre) coordinators and BRPs (Block Resource Persons) have also come under fire for their lack of commitment. Residents of Kalacharra block have raised serious allegations against the BRPs stationed at Haroa Secondary School’s BRC center.
According to locals, these officials visit the center irregularly, spending only one or two days a week on duty, with no accountability for the rest of their time.
“It’s shocking that even the school in-charge is unaware of where these officials are during working hours,” said a resident. “Their negligence has worsened the plight of schools.”
Despite repeated complaints, no corrective measures have been implemented by higher authorities. Parents and guardians are now demanding immediate intervention by the education minister to address this systemic failure.
