Agartala, 3rd December 2024: A massive protest took place in Agartala city today, condemning attacks on minorities and demanding the release of ISKCON member Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu in Bangladesh. The protest rally, organized by Sanatani Yuva raised slogans of “Bangladesh Chalo Abhiyan” at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan.
Leading the rally, former MoS Pratima Bhoumik stated that the protest was jointly organized by ISKCON and Goriyo Math.
“They invited us, and we have come here. We do not support such attacks on minorities. They only need a chance to carry out these acts. We saw this in 1995 and 1996. Whenever the government changes, minorities are targeted. Now, it is our responsibility. Bangladesh was created after dividing from India. We created Bangladesh. All the properties in Bangladesh were built by our forefathers. Their main aim is to attack minorities, kidnap women, and force conversions. We condemn such actions and cannot remain silent as Sanatanis. We must raise our voices peacefully,” she said.
Bhoumik also highlighted that the homes and business establishments of Hindu minorities had come under attack and that ISKCON member Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu was unlawfully detained. She emphasized the nationwide concern over these incidents.
Meanwhile, security was heightened around the Akhaura Integrated Check Post (ICP) in Agartala as Tripura Police prepared for the announced “Bangladesh Chalo Abhiyan” protest.
Barricades were set up to maintain law and order after permission for the demonstration was denied.
West District Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar confirmed that the group behind the protest had sought approval, which was rejected.
“They had requested permission to hold a protest rally under the banner of ‘Bangladesh Chalo Abhiyan,’ but we denied it. Consequently, additional security personnel were deployed, and barricades were erected to secure the Agartala-Akhaura ICP,” SP Kumar said.
The SP assured that passenger movement between Agartala and Bangladesh through the ICP continued uninterrupted.
