Agartala, 3rd December 2024: The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) and the state government remain resolute in their commitment to lawful urban management, Mayor Dipak Majumdar stated on Tuesday while inspecting the progress of newly constructed shops on Laxminarayan Bari Road.
The Mayor’s inspection comes days after a significant eviction drive conducted under the directives of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha. The operation aimed to clear illegally occupied government land in front of the iconic Laxminarayan Bari temple.
The Municipal Corporation has since allocated business spaces to seven legal license holders, ensuring that legitimate traders have opportunities to thrive. Mayor Majumdar, accompanied by Corporator Ratna Dutta, reviewed the ongoing construction and reassured the public of the government’s unwavering stance.
“We will not yield to pressure from anti-social elements. Those who adhere to legal protocols will receive full support, but the campaign against illegal encroachments will persist. No one will be allowed to misuse government property,” declared the Mayor during the inspection.
The AMC’s firm approach has garnered mixed reactions, with some welcoming the development while others express concerns over the livelihoods of displaced traders. However, the Mayor reiterated that the administration’s priority is to ensure lawfulness and fairness in urban governance.
The initiative underscores the Municipal Corporation’s mission to promote organized development while maintaining the sanctity of public spaces.
