India’s BSF and Bangladesh’s BGB celebrate 53rd anniversary of 1971 Liberation War

Agartala, 16th December 2024:   The Indi’s BSF and Bangladesh’s BGB commemorated the 53rd anniversary of the 1971 Liberation War on the occasion of Great Victory Day. The celebration took place at the Agartala-Akhaura border, highlighting the enduring friendship between the two nations.

Senior officers from both sides, led by Major General Sumit Rana, Chief of Staff of the Indian Army’s 101 Area, and Major General Abul Hasnat Mohammad Tariq, GOC of the Bangladesh Army’s 33 Infantry Division, exchanged greetings and sweets to mark the event. The warmth and camaraderie displayed during the celebration served as a poignant reminder of the historic partnership and sacrifices made by Bangladeshi freedom fighters and the Indian armed forces during the Liberation War, which culminated on December 16, 1971.

The event also highlighted the significant role played by Tripura and Agartala in the 1971 Liberation War. “The bond between our armed forces and our people is built on the spirit of justice, freedom, and equality,” said Major General Rana. Major General Tariq echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the deep friendship between the two nations.

The day’s events in Agartala included a wreath-laying ceremony at the Albert Ekka War Memorial, attended by the Governor of Tripura, and the launch of a cycle rally. Additionally, a felicitation ceremony was held to honor Indian ex-servicemen and brave women who participated in the 1971 Liberation War.

The celebration highlighted the continued cooperation and shared history between India and Bangladesh, reaffirming their commitment to peace and solidarity.
