Agartala, 17th December 2024: Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Tuesday inaugurated the newly constructed deep tube well of the Udaipur Municipal Council. The ceremony was attended by the municipal chairman, sub-division administrators, officers and engineers of the Drinking Water & Sanitation Department, ward commissioners, and other dignitaries.
However, the event was marred by public discontent. Many attendees expressed their frustration with the Municipal Council and the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department. The Finance Minister himself was visibly upset, publicly reprimanding the officials for their shortcomings and ordering immediate corrections.
The inauguration stage at the Rajarshi Kala Kendra lacked proper decorations, with lamps lit using white candles. This oversight led to widespread gossip among the attendees. Additionally, the event was poorly organized, with no proper seating arrangements for journalists, coaches, or parents of players from various states. Attendees also reported a lack of basic amenities such as sweets and drinking water.
“The state government aims to provide services at the fingertips of the common people, but the situation in Udaipur is quite the opposite,” remarked a local resident. The ward councilor’s role was also criticized as irresponsible.
The chaotic organization of the event has left many questioning the efficiency of the local administration. “Today’s inaugural ceremony has become a laughing stock in the public mind,” commented another attendee. The community hopes for better management and accountability in future events.
