Agartala, 20th December 2024:  In a bold act of vigilance, locals of the Panisagar Deocherra area seized 12 cattle that were being smuggled, along with two vehicles and one smuggler involved in the act. The incident unfolded early this morning when a group of local youths from Ramnagar Deocherra intercepted a Bolero pickup truck loaded with two cattle.

Upon searching the vehicle, the locals discovered a total of 12 cattle being transported illegally. Subsequently, they apprehended and severely beat the driver and co-driver before notifying the police at Panisagar police station. In response to the call, Officer-in-Charge Sumanta Bhattacharya and fire personnel arrived at the scene.

Given the severe condition of one of the drivers, fire personnel transported him to Panisagar Sub-Divisional Hospital for medical treatment, while the other driver managed to escape. The police then took custody of two Bolero pickup trucks, bearing registration numbers TR05H1563 and TR05F1797, along with the 12 cattle.

OC Sumanta Bhattacharya commented on the situation, stating, “If the locals register any complaint with the police station, I will investigate with a strong hand or start a suo-moto case.” He confirmed that the two Bolero vehicles are currently in police custody and that the twelve Burmese cows will be handed over to Baba Gorakhnath Goshala in Kalikapur, Jubarajnagar.
