Agartala, 22nd December 2024: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday lauded the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for transforming Tripura’s governance landscape while launching a scathing attack on the CPIM for decades of alleged misgovernance and negligence, particularly toward the Bru Reang community.
Shah made these remarks during his visit to Dhalai, Tripura, where he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects valued at over ₹668 crore. The Union Minister also visited the Haduklau Para Bru Settlement Colony and interacted with the Bru Reang community, highlighting the BJP’s efforts to rehabilitate and empower them.
“The CPIM’s governance in Tripura left people deprived of basic amenities. Today, thanks to the BJP’s leadership, there’s a stark transformation. I still remember my visit in 2017 as BJP National President—our team was small, but we were determined. At that time, only 2.5% of the state’s population had access to piped drinking water. Today, that number stands at 85%. Free rations, which the CPIM never bothered to provide, are now reaching 82% of the poor,” said Shah.
Reflecting on the plight of the Bru Reang community, Shah condemned the Congress and Communist parties for their apathy over the decades. “For 25 years, the Bru Reang people lived without basic facilities—water, toilets, electricity, education, or healthcare. Those in power never recognized their suffering. But Prime Minister Narendra Modi not only acknowledged their struggles but also acted to resolve them,” he said.
He credited the BJP-led state and central governments for implementing a historic agreement that resettled over 40,000 Bru Reang people and provided them with essential services like employment, education, clean drinking water, and healthcare. Shah also highlighted the creation of women’s cooperatives as part of the BJP’s inclusive governance model.
Shah further emphasized that under the BJP’s leadership, the implementation of schemes has moved beyond paper, benefiting people on the ground—a stark contrast to the unfulfilled promises of previous regimes. “This is the BJP difference: commitment, compassion, and visible results,” he said. Through his remarks, Shah not only celebrated the strides made under the BJP’s governance but also drew attention to the legacy of neglect under the CPIM, marking a clear distinction between the two eras in Tripura’s political history.
