Govt to Appoint Over 400 Assistant Professors in Colleges: CM

Agartala, 10th January 2025:   The Tripura government has announced significant steps to improve the quality of higher education and address the acute shortage of faculty in colleges across the state. Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha revealed the plans during the first day of the winter session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly on Friday. 

Dr. Saha, who also serves as the state’s Education Minister, highlighted that Tripura currently has 31 General Degree Colleges accommodating 72,009 students. To meet the growing demand for faculty, the state has initiated the recruitment of 200 Assistant Professors and 12 part-time professors. Furthermore, a proposal to hire an additional 201 Assistant Professors has been submitted to the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC). 

“Currently, there are 787 PGTs, Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, and Professors in our General Degree Colleges. To bridge the gap, the Finance Department has approved the recruitment of 200 Assistant Professors, and these appointments will adhere to cabinet norms. Simultaneously, the process to appoint 201 more Assistant Professors through TPSC has been initiated. The recruitment process will commence soon,” Dr. Saha stated. 

To ensure uninterrupted learning for students, the government has also engaged 710 guest lecturers. Additionally, Master’s Degree programs have been introduced in six General Degree Colleges, supported by the appointment of 12 part-time teachers.  The Chief Minister assured that all appointments would align with the latest University Grants Commission (UGC) 2023 guidelines, ensuring quality and compliance in higher education across the state.
