Date:

Agartala, 20th  May 2026:  Police have arrested two youths from Bihar accused of snatching gold ornaments from women in Srinagar police station limits. The incident highlights growing insecurity, with women reportedly unsafe even inside their homes.

This afternoon, the duo entered the house of elderly Radha Rani Debbarma in Taylorbon area of ADC Village, pretending to clean utensils. Taking advantage of the absence of male family members, they allegedly snatched a gold chain from her neck and fled. Hearing her cries, neighbors alerted locals at Kanchanmala market, who quickly organized to intercept the suspects.

Soon after, the two youths attempted to speed through the market on a motorcycle bearing registration number BR39AE-8350. Vigilant residents caught them, recovered the stolen chain, and handed them over to Amtali Police, who rushed to the spot.

The victim’s son, Parimal Debbarma, lodged a formal complaint, leading to the arrest of the accused identified as Pawan Kumar and Nitish Kumar, both residents of Katihar district, Bihar. Police sources revealed that the duo had carried out similar thefts in Amtali’s Baroitila and Shibbari areas in recent days using the same modus operandi.

A case has been registered under relevant sections, and the accused will be produced before court tomorrow.
