Miscreants attempt arson after failed theft at Melaghar

Agartala, 17th January 2025:   In a shocking incident near Melaghar Bora Pathar Bazar under Sonamura police station, miscreants attempted to kill a family by setting their furniture on fire after failing to steal it. The owner of Rupali Furniture and Timber, Malek Mia was at the Dharmanagar Ijtema when the thieves tried to steal his furniture by moving it to the street. They fled when his daughter spotted them.

Later that night, around 2:30 am, the miscreants returned and set fire to the furniture by dousing it in kerosene and using a piece of paper in a pipe. Malek Mia’s wife found the fire when she went outside and alerted the family. They managed to extinguish the flames with the help of neighbors, but not before furniture worth Rs three to four lakh was damaged.

Malek Mia, a well-known social figure expressed his distress stating he has no personal enmity and cannot comprehend why such an attack was made on his family. The police have inspected the scene, and the community urges a thorough investigation to bring the culprits to justice.
