Date:

Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal who has been on fast-unto-death for the last 55 days, agreed to accept Medical assistance after the central government on Saturday announced a meeting with farmers in Chandigarh on February 14.

Glucose was administered to farmer leader Dallewal and 121 farmers ended their fast-unto-death on Sunday.

However, Dallewal said the fast would continue till their demands were met. Farmers’ demands include a law to guarantee a Minimum Support Price for their produce.

As many as 111 farmers from Punjab and 10 farmers from Haryana on Sunday ended their fast-unto-death after having juice at the hands of farmer leaders Kaka Singh Kotda, Sukhjeet Singh Hardojande, and Baldev Singh Sirsa.

Earlier, Priyaranjan Das, joint secretary, of the Union Agriculture Ministry visited Dallewal and other farmer leaders at the Khanauri border on Saturday night and said that talks between the central government representatives and farmer leaders would resume on February 14.
