Agartala, 28th January 2025: Students of Sutarmura Class XII school took drastic action by blocking the Sutarmura-Lalsingmura road and locking the school premises. Their protest is a demand for the appointment of subject teachers, a plea that has long been ignored by the state Education department.
The incident caused significant traffic jams on both sides of the road, prompting police from Bishramganj police station to rush to the scene. Students revealed that they have been protesting for an extended period, seeking a political science, Kokborok, and English teacher, but no initiative has been taken.
Students expressed frustration over the tardiness of their teachers and the inadequate staffing at the school. Currently, 108 students from classes 6 to 12 are managed by only 4 out of the 8 required teachers. The lack of teachers is not the only issue; the school also faces problems with drinking water and lacks a boundary wall, compounding the challenges faced by Sutarmura Class XII school.
Upon receiving news of the protest, Antony Debbarma, an officer from the District Education Department, and Uttam Debnath, the Inspector of Schools, along with Bishramganj police, arrived at the scene. The students have vowed to continue their blockade until their demands for subject teachers are met.
