Agartala, 7th February 2025:   The Tripura Natural Gas Company Limited (TNGCL) is facing mounting pressure from its workforce as employees and trade unions raise serious concerns over staff shortages and operational safety. In a recent letter addressed to TNGCL’s Managing Director and Director Commercial, the Tripura Prakritik Gas Mazdoor Sangh (TPGMS) highlighted several key issues affecting the company’s operations.

According to the letter, TNGCL has been operating with insufficient manpower, which has led to delays in customer service, increased risks in operation and maintenance (O&M) activities, and growing dissatisfaction among workers. The workers’ union emphasized that the current workforce is struggling to meet the demands of expanding PNG (piped natural gas) and CNG (compressed natural gas) services across Tripura.

“We have repeatedly requested additional manpower to ensure smooth operations and maintain safety standards, but our concerns have not been addressed adequately. This shortage is not only overburdening existing employees but also posing potential safety hazards,” stated general secretary of TPGMS Binoy Mallik.

The demands are- Immediate recruitment of additional personnel to ease operational stress, reduction in response time for customer service issues, strengthening of O&M teams to ensure efficient service delivery, and enhanced safety measures to prevent accidents due to workforce shortages.

TPGMS also warned that unless these concerns are addressed, the quality of service and overall efficiency of TNGCL could deteriorate, affecting both employees and consumers.

The general secretary Mallik also stated, “This is to formally notify that the just demands of the irregular workers must be met within the next 15 days, by the February 16, 2025. Failure to address these demands will result in all workers employed under TNGCL statewide refraining from service starting February 17, 2025, as part of an ongoing protest program.”

The letter has been forwarded to multiple stakeholders, including the Labour & Sports Minister, the Chairman of Tripura Industrial Development Corporation (TIDC) and other government officials.
