Agartala, 11th February 2025: Shyamal Das of Darogabari Thakurpara area under Amtali police station was arrested for allegedly murdering his wife Swapna Das. The police arrested Shyamal within an hour of the incident.
Sources informed, Shyamal Das had a history of quarreling with his wife over various issues. This afternoon, the couple began arguing over the electricity issue at their home. The argument escalated and in a fit of rage, Shyamal began hitting Swapna with a stick. Tragically, Swapna succumbed to her injuries and died on the spot.
In an attempt to save himself, Shyamal Das called the Amtali police station and reported that his wife had been murdered. Upon receiving the call, a large police force including Second Officer Mrinal Kantir Pal and Amtali SDPO Shankar Chandra Das rushed to the scene. The forensic team and dog squad were also deployed to investigate the crime.
“The moment we arrived, we suspected Shyamal Das,” said a police officer on the scene. During interrogation, Shyamal confessed to the murder leading to his immediate arrest. The police have initiated a murder case against him, and he has been sent to the police station for further questioning.
The body of Swapna Das was recovered and sent to the Tripura Medical College & Dr BR Ambedkar Teaching Hospital’s morgue at Hapania for an autopsy. According to police sources, Shyamal Das is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow.
“The whole area is in a state of shock. It is hard to believe that such a horrific incident could happen in our community,” said a local resident. The case has drawn widespread attention, with many calling for swift justice for Swapna Das.
