Agartala, 9th March 2025:   A brutal attack on Sirna Begum has raised questions about the police’s inaction at Netaji Subhas Colony, Sekerkote. The incident took place on March 6 last with a dispute among three families, leading to accusations against daily laborer Sameer Mia. When he protested, Meena Begum and another woman physically assaulted him. His wife Sirna Begum tried to intervene but was severely beaten by Meena Begum, her husband Tapas Mia and another woman. Sirna was later taken to Tripura Medical College & Dr BR Ambedkar Teaching Hospital at Hapania for treatment.

Sameer Mia lodged a written complaint with Amtali Police Station mentioning the names of the attackers on March 07 last. The police assured a fair investigation and prompt arrests. However, two days later, no arrests had been made and there was no sign of progress in the investigation. On Women’s Day yesterday, the victim, her husband and local residents visited the police station, seeking accountability, but they left disappointed with no concrete answers from the authorities.

The lack of action by Amtali Police has sparked outrage in Netaji Subhas Colony, where residents accuse the police of failing to serve the public. The victims took their case to the media, criticizing the police’s indifference to violence against women.
