Agartala, 9th March 2025: In the remote village of Bejimara under Sonamura police station, a heart-wrenching story has come to limelight where a youth Wasim Mia was born with a severe physical disability, shoulders the enormous responsibility of supporting five family members.
Wasim, son of Abdul Barek resides in Bor Narayan Tilla under Bejimara Gram Panchayat. He has been 100% disabled since birth, unable to walk or move properly due to both legs being non-functional. Despite his disability, Wasim braves immense physical challenges to earn a livelihood, as his entire family depends on him.
Wasim’s family situation is dire. His father is mentally unwell, his mother is unable to work and among his three sisters, one is married while the other two are still pursuing their education. The family has no property or assets apart from their modest home. Wasim receives a monthly government allowance of Rs 2,000, but this meager amount is far from sufficient to sustain a family of five.
In response to the media personnel at Sonamura today, Wasim shared his struggles and voiced a desperate plea for help. Currently, as Muslims around the world observe the holy month of Ramadan, Wasim appealed to people from all communities—irrespective of caste, creed, or religion—to extend financial support through zakat and donations.
He also sought the intervention of the state’s Chief Minister, urging for economic relief to alleviate his family’s suffering. Exhausted from carrying the weight of his family’s needs, Wasim Mia is reaching out for help that could save him and his family from their hardships.
