Agartala, 22nd March 2025:   Former MP Rebati Tripura has voiced concerns over the ongoing Tipra Motha movement demanding the use of Roman script in Kokborok, urging protesters to ensure demonstrations remain peaceful and non-destructive.

Speaking at a press conference held at the Pradesh BJP Office today, he emphasized that while democratic rights allow for protests, they should not take a form that causes disruption or inconvenience to the public. “It is very unfortunate that vehicles associated with emergency services have been seized in the name of the movement. This is completely inappropriate,” he remarked, appealing to all stakeholders to reconsider their approach.

Rebati reiterated that Tipra Motha is an ally of the ruling party and acknowledged that the demand for the Roman script has been longstanding. However, he pointed out that Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha had already assured that the government would address the matter through discussions. Despite this assurance, the TMP Youth Organization has continued its movement, raising questions about its persistence.

At the same press conference, State BJP spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty provided insights into the state budget for the financial year 2025-26. He announced that the budget has been raised to Rs 32,423.44 crore, marking an increase of approximately 20% from the previous year’s budget of Rs 27,804.67 crore.

“This budget has been crafted keeping in mind the welfare of the last person in society. During the Left Front government, the state’s budget was around Rs 15,000 crore. In the last seven years, the BJP-led government has increased the budget 103 times, making history for Tripura,” he stated.

He also highlighted that the capital expenditure for the financial year 2025-26 has been estimated at Rs 7,903 crore, which is 19.14% higher than the previous year’s budget. Additionally, the BJP government has allocated over Rs 1,948.69 crore for the health sector, reflecting a 12.89% increase from the 2024-25 budget. In a major announcement, the Tripura government introduced the ‘Mukhyamantri Kanya Bivaha Yojana’ to support marriage expenses for girls from Antyodaya families. Under this scheme, the state government will provide Rs 50,000 for the marriage of eligible girls, with mass wedding ceremonies to be organized at the sub-division level. A budget of Rs 10 crore has been allocated for this initiative.

Furthermore, government employees and teachers in Tripura have been granted an additional 3% dearness allowance (DA) as part of the new budget, benefiting thousands of workers across the state.Chakraborty lauded the new budget, calling it a “historic and humanitarian budget,” and extended gratitude to Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha and Finance Minister Pranajit Singh Roy for their efforts in addressing the needs of the people.
