President Droupadi Murmu arrives in Slovak capital, accorded ceremonial welcome

President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Slovakia and was warmly received by President Peter Pellegrini of the Slovak Republic at the Presidential Palace in Bratislava on Wednesday.

The President’s Office said in a post on X:

“President Droupadi Murmu was received by President Peter Pellegrini of the Slovak Republic at the Presidential Palace in Bratislava. She was extended a traditional Slovak welcome with bread and salt by a couple in folk dress. The President was accorded a ceremonial welcome with the Guard of Honour.”

The MEA spokesperson said:

“President Droupadi Murmu @rashtrapatibhvn arrived at the Presidential Palace in Bratislava today.

“Warmly received by President @PellegriniP_

of Slovakia and accorded a ceremonial welcome with Guard of Honour.

“This is the first Presidential visit from India to Slovakia in nearly three decades.”

President Murmu arrived in Bratislava from Lisbon after concluding her two-day state visit.

In Lisbon on Tuesday, the President also addressed the Indian community and Friends of India in Lisbon.

“President Droupadi Murmu addressed the members of Indian Community at a Reception hosted by the Ambassador of India to Portugal. The accompanying Minister of State, Smt. Nimuben Bambhaniya as well as Members of Parliament, Shri Dhaval Patel and Smt. Sandhya Ray were present on the occasion,” the President’s Office posted.

“The President said that members of Indian community representing many parts of India and different communities, not only reflect the diversity of India but also represent the shared values of democracy, pluralism and the spirit of fraternity that bind our two countries.”

She also held talks with the PM of Portugal Luis Montenegro.

“Both leaders held extensive talks on the wide ranging bilateral relationship. They also exchanged views on the potential cooperation in areas of trade and commerce, defence, science & technology and energy.”

President Murmu paid floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba Gandhi in Lisbon, Portugal. She also offered prayers at the Radha-Krishna Temple.
