Agartala, 9th April 2025:   A severe road accident in the Madhupur Lembutuli area today left a woman and a youth critically injured.

Locals present at the site said, contractor Ajay Debnath was traveling on his scooty bearing registration number TR07H8993 from the Rastar Matha towards Madhupur around noon. Simultaneously, Ishan Das, riding a bike with registration number TR07E7317 was heading toward Nehal Chandranagar with his sister Purnima Das. As Das attempted to turn toward Nehal Chandranagar from the main road at high speed, he collided head-on with Debnath’s scooty.

The collision caused both riders to fall off their vehicles. Purnima Das lost consciousness immediately, while Ajay Debnath lay injured by the roadside bleeding heavily. Pedestrians rushed to help, transporting the victims to Madhupur Hospital using an ONGC vehicle. While Debnath received treatment locally, Purnima Das was referred to GBP Hospital due to the seriousness of her injuries.

“The accident happened because of the recklessness of the bike driver,” said one witness. Ishan Das acknowledged his error, admitting that he instructed his sister to signal manually before turning onto another road.

The aftermath of the accident highlighted broader issues of road safety. Residents voiced their frustration over the lack of vehicle checks and patrolling in the area. “Ever since the construction of the main road, some drivers speed recklessly, causing frequent accidents,” commented a local.

Additionally, the location of the accident—a jurisdictional boundary between Madhupur and Bishalgarh police stations—reportedly complicated the response. Neither police station intervened promptly, a situation locals claim occurs often in such scenarios.

The damaged vehicles were ultimately left lying on the road, serving as a stark reminder of the tragedy. Residents have called for immediate action by law enforcement to prevent future accidents and ensure road safety in the Madhupur area.
