CPI(M) holds protest march at Dharmanagar against Waqf Bill and rising prices

Agartala, 11th April 2025:   Dharmanagar witnessed a spirited protest march today organized by the CPI(M) North District Dharmanagar Sub-Divisional Committee. The demonstrators demanded the withdrawal of the Waqf Bill and called for immediate action to curb the rising costs of cooking gas and essential medicines.

The march began at the district office around 1 PM and concluded at the same location resonated through the city streets. CPI(M) leader Ratan Roy addressed the gathering, stating, “Minorities are not only Muslims. They are trying to crush Christians, Buddhists and women. This is why the CPI(M) party is demanding the cancellation of the Waqf Bill.”

Roy also highlighted the financial strain caused by the government’s policies, adding, “During the tenure of this government, the central government has drastically increased the price of 748 life-sustaining medicines needed by the elderly every day. From April 1, the price of gas cylinders in people’s kitchens has been increased by fifty taka. The central government has increased the prices of petroleum products.”

The CPI (M) vowed to continue its protests until the central government addresses their demands, which include reversing the price hikes and withdrawing the amendment bill. Jubarajnagar MLA Shailendra Chandra Nath and women’s leader Sathi Bhattacharya joined the march lending their voices to the cause.
