Agartala, 5th May 2025: Takarajala witnessed a violent altercation on Monday as workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its alliance partner Tipra Motha clashed in front of the local police station. Several individuals sustained injuries, and multiple vehicles including a freight Bolero were reportedly vandalized. Political decorations belonging to BJP were also destroyed in the unrest.
Eyewitnesses described the situation as escalating rapidly, leading to intense tension in the area. “There was a sudden surge in chaos; people were running in different directions,” said a local shopkeeper, who wished to remain anonymous.
The local police initially struggled to contain the violence, prompting additional security reinforcements to be dispatched. “We deployed extra personnel to restore order, and the situation is now under control,” stated a senior police officer from Takarajala Police Station. Following the incident, both political parties lodged complaints against each other at the station.
Authorities have since stationed a large CRPF contingent to prevent further disturbances. Despite these measures, tensions remain high in the area, with residents expressing concerns over repeated incidents of political unrest.
The clash has reignited public debate over Tipra Motha’s role in the BJP-led coalition government. Critics have pointed to previous incidents involving Tipra Motha supporters, including allegations that a party-affiliated student organization obstructed an ambulance and disrupted students en route to their examination centers. “Such actions raise serious questions about political accountability,” remarked a local political analyst.
While BJP has yet to issue an official statement addressing the recent violence, political observers argue that the party’s presence in Tripura’s tribal regions remains relatively weak, which may have influenced its decision to form an alliance with Tipra Motha. However, concerns persist over whether the alliance is being leveraged strategically by Tipra Motha to expand its own influence.
As tensions simmer, the public continues to seek answers regarding the future of this coalition. “Where is this heading? Will BJP take action, or will Tipra Motha continue asserting itself?” questioned a resident from Takarajala.
