Search continues for missing youth in Muhuri River after police chase

Agartala, 6th May 2025:  The search operation for a youth who jumped into the Muhuri River following a police chase continues into this afternoon, with no trace of him found yet. Disaster management personnel have launched multiple motorized boats at Bankar Ghat, intensifying efforts to locate the missing individual.

It is reported that the incident took place this evening when police conducted an anti-drug operation in the Gangail Road area of Bankar in Belonia. As officers approached, several youths attempted to flee. Among them, Arjun Das and another individual jumped off the Gangail Road embankment into the river. While one man managed to surface and escape, Das reportedly screamed for help before disappearing beneath the water.

Upon receiving information about the incident, the Belonia SDM along with police officials, Fire department personnel and disaster management teams launched an extensive search operation using motorized boats. However, as of this afternoon, Das remains missing.

Meanwhile, his wife and family have gathered at the riverbank in distress, accusing the police of failing to rescue him. The family members broke down in tears at the site, pleading for urgent intervention.
